FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A deadlocked jury prompted a mistrial Saturday in the South Florida trial of rapper YNW Melly on charges that he murdered two of his friends five years ago. The 12-member panel could not reach a unanimous verdict after three days of deliberations. Broward County prosecutors, who had been seeking the death penalty, will likely choose to retry the case with a new jury. A unanimous verdict is required to convict or acquit a defendant. Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy twice asked the jurors to keep deliberating after they said they were deadlocked, but relented after they came back a third time. Prosecutors say YNW Melly, whose legal name is Jamell Demons, shot Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. while they were all inside a Jeep. Williams and Thomas were both part of the YNW collective, known respectively as YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.Prosecutors said the shooting was part of a gang action, while defense attorneys said that claim lacks credibility ...Toronto Fire rescue man who fell 50 feet into ravine in Don Valley

(NEXSTAR) — Residents of the northeastern U.S. saw firsthand this summer the devastation flooding can cause in a community. Unfortunately, scientists predict flooding will only become more common as the years go on. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! A map created by Climate Central, an organization of scientists and journalists focused on studying the impacts of climate change, shows what the future may hold for coastal communities as sea level rises. The first map sets the projections to include sea level rise and typical annual flooding (weather that can be expected every year). The map includes what would happen with "unchecked pollution" between now and 2050.That setting most closely matches the current path we're on, Climate Central said. For luck, the bar is set to "medium," which reflects the middle range of possibilities predicted by scientists. Flood cleanup could take weeks, after “catastrophic” flooding Explore the i...3-year-old boy from southern Illinois advances in 2023 USA Mullet Competition

The studios will be fined $250 for not getting the correct permit to trim the trees, which is the normal citation for a first-time offense. Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia said that while city laws limit fines and penalties, if the studio were to illegally cut the trees again, the fine could go up to $1,000.
